Family, friends, and members of the Schuylkill Haven community are mourning the tragic loss of a 45-year-old local resident who died following a collision involving an electric pedal cycle and a tractor-trailer late Thursday night in Schuylkill County.
According to the Pennsylvania State Police at Schuylkill Haven, the fatal crash occurred at approximately 11:11 p.m. on June 11, 2026, along Route 61 northbound just north of Seven Stars Road in North Manheim Township.
Investigators reported that a 2024 International LT62F tractor-trailer, operated by 38-year-old Edwin J. Viera of Vineland, New Jersey, was traveling in the right lane of the highway when it struck an electric pedal cycle traveling along the right shoulder near the fog line. Authorities stated that the front passenger-side bumper of the truck made contact with the rear of the cycle.
The impact caused significant damage to the electric pedal cycle, while the tractor-trailer sustained only minor cosmetic damage. Emergency responders from Schuylkill EMS arrived at the scene and transported the cyclist to Lehigh Valley Hospital–East Pottsville for emergency medical treatment. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, the victim later succumbed to injuries sustained in the collision.
Authorities have identified the victim only as a 45-year-old man from Schuylkill Haven. His name has not yet been publicly released pending additional notifications and procedures.
